In 2021 Barnardos New Zealand spent 18% of income on administration.

Barnardos is:

  • Registered with the Charities Commission (registration CC21844).
  • Externally and independently audited every year by EY New Zealand. The auditor's full financial report can be downloaded here.
  • Governed by an active Board who meet bi-monthly supported by a Finance & Audit sub-committee
  • Aligned with New Zealand and international codes of conduct setting standards and benchmarks.

Barnardos seeks to ensure all resources entrusted to us are safeguarded by:

  • Protecting assets through a planned maintenance and upgrade programme.
  • Ongoing internal and external audits of information system security controls.
  • Maintaining a risk management programme that is subject to on-going review at all levels of the organisation.

Financial Sustainability is maintained by:

• Regular financial reporting and critical analysis of financial performance to ensure the maximum resource is allocated to delivering frontline services.

• Retaining sufficient cash reserves to ensure the on-going delivery of services.

• Maintaining flexibility and keeping overheads low by outsourcing non-frontline functions and leasing assets where efficiencies can be gained.

Barnardos is committed to operating in an environmentally sustainable manner:

• An Environmentally Sustainability strategy has been implemented with annual targets for emission reductions.

• Carbon emissions are reported quarterly.
