How to make a gift

Family and whānau are hugely important to Barnardos, so we know that when you make your Will your first priority will be to provide for your loved ones. A gift in your Will, of any amount, is welcome and can be simply stated, either in your Will or in a codicil (addition). When making or revising a Will you should consult your legal advisor to ensure it completely represents your wishes.

There are two options for leaving a gift in your Will to Barnardos.

Option 1: Gifting a lasting legacy

You can make your gift to the Barnardos New Zealand Foundation (our capital endowment trust). The Foundation provides long-term financial support to Barnardos. Your gift will be invested in perpetuity to provide income that will be allocated to future areas of need. This means your gift will keep on helping vulnerable children well after your lifetime.

The following wording is suggested for leaving a gift in your Will to the Barnardos New Zealand Foundation:

“I give to the Barnardos New Zealand Foundation, registered charity CC60439, (x% of estate, the residue of my estate, a sum of money or a description of your property or assets) for general purposes, for which the receipt from an authorised officer of the organisation shall be a full and sufficient discharge to my trustees.

Option 2: A gift to Barnardos New Zealand

You can make your gift directly to Barnardos New Zealand to be used for general purposes where the need is greatest at the time or for a specific project that you’ve nominated. If you have a particular area of our work that you wish to support, or have any questions, please call our free phone on 0800 005 437.

The following wording is suggested for leaving a gift in your Will to Barnardos New Zealand:

“I give to Barnardos New Zealand, (x% of estate, the residue of my estate, or sum of money, or property or assets – write a description) for general purposes, for which the receipt of an authorised officer of the organisation shall be a full and sufficient discharge to my trustees”
