Family Poverty

Every whānau living in Aotearoa should have enough to provide for their children so that they have what they need to thrive.

However, despite New Zealand being one of the wealthiest countries in the world, nearly a quarter of children live in poverty – going without many of life’s basic necessities such as food, a warm home, warm clothing and school equipment. 

What we know:

Barnardos advocates for all families in Aotearoa to have an income that is enough to live on, and affordable access to community spaces and the services they need.
